Last week Denis and I went to the Deer Valley Rock Art Center to look for petroglyphs we might have overlooked on previous visits, and also to see what sort of wildlife might be out and about in the cooler weather.
While I was keeping an eye on lizards and ground squirrels, Denis found a young desert cottontail that seemed to place too much faith in the power of remaining still....
"If I stay really still, he won't see me... right?" |
How adorable. It almost looks like his ears are glowing - great shot.
ReplyDeleteHe's trying so hard to stay still that his ears are glowing! ;-)
DeleteCathy - Oh, this is a fabulous picture! I love the way the light plays on his fur.
ReplyDeleteDenis and I agreed that this is the best photo either of us took that day.
DeleteAdorable! Just like a kid who thinks he's hiding when in plain sight.
ReplyDeleteHere's MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT POST
I helped my grandfather raise rabbits, and when I'd hold the tiny babies, they'd burrow their faces into the crook of my elbow, convinced that, if they couldn't see me, then they were safe. If only that were true!
DeleteSo cute! I love the ears. Great capture!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great close-up. Your headline made me laugh!

Did you grow up watching Elmer Fudd, too? ;-)
DeleteWhat a cutie! I love the light coming through his ear!!
ReplyDeleteSo do I. Denis got such a great capture!
DeleteWhat a close-up! I guess in this case his instinct to stay perfectly still paid off for both of you :)
ReplyDeleteIt certainly did!
DeleteSo cute! And I like how the light is shining on his ear.
ReplyDeleteMost of it was in fairly deep shadow. I don't think it had any idea that its ear was shining like a beacon!
DeleteHe is so adorable!! I have a few rabbits that have made our brush pile in the back corner home and love seeing them hopping around every morning and evening!
ReplyDeleteI just hope this one doesn't make the same mistake when the watcher is a coyote!
DeleteYou call the rabbit's attention. It looks alert and ready to run.
ReplyDeleteDenis wanted me to come over to see the rabbit. I knew that if I did, it would run. Denis insisted. I came over. The rabbit disappeared before I could catch a glimpse. Staying still for one human was doable. Staying still for two? No way!
DeleteExactly!
ReplyDeleteAfter reading Watership Down I view all rabbits as little Fiver's and Hazel's >:-)
ReplyDeleteVery true-- after reading it, you just don't look at rabbits the same way as before!
DeleteIt's like he's invisible! Great photo.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Louise!
DeleteOh, how adorable. This is the only type of "shooting" rabbits which I approve of.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Kathy!
