Scene of the Blog Featuring Helen of Helen's Book Blog!

I've discovered several book bloggers in past weeks through Alyce's Saturday Snapshot meme on her excellent blog, At Home With Books. This week is no exception which is only natural, I suppose, because I'm drawn to people who are interested in both books and photography.

When I visited Helen at her aptly named Helen's Book Blog, I discovered that she's a Teacher Librarian in California. The motto beneath her blog name in her header states "I'd read all day if they'd let me," which would fit many of us, wouldn't it? As I continued to explore, I was impressed by her blog's clean lines and simple layout, and by her mix of the personal side of her life and her reading. If you've never visited Helen's Book Blog before, I certainly hope you take this opportunity to do so. Please don't forget to say hello while you're there!

If you're visiting from Helen's blog-- Welcome! I'm glad you stopped by to take a look at Helen's blogging space. If you'd like to see her photo in a larger size, click on it, and it will open in a new window. Once you've finished checking out Helen's space, you're more than welcome to take a look at previous participants' varied range of creative spaces. Click on the Scene of the Blog tab at the very top of my header. There are two ways to search: by Blog Name and by Location. Now let's take a look at where Helen does her blogging!

I have been blogging since November 2009 when I began a blog as Teacher Librarian at San Marcos High School in Santa Barbara, CA. Almost immediately I took part in my first Dewey 24-Hour Read-a-Thon and realized that students didn't really want to read about memes so I began Helen's Book Blog for my personal reading journey (I still keep up the Murdoch's Musings for my library blog). Blogging works well for me as it combines three things I really enjoy: books; technology; and interacting with lots of different people.

Helen's blogging space

My blogging space is pretty good though I spend way too much time there. The built-in desk is located in an alcove of my bedroom and is surrounded by 2 windows. I have my laptop and an additional a large second monitor, my stacks of books, and I am good to go. I'll confess that it isn't always as neat as in this photo, but I cleaned up to impress all of you :-) There's nothing I would change about my space except to spend less time there. I definitely allow myself to get sucked into sitting at the computer doing email, blogging, etc and should spend more time reading and not having screen time.

I look forward to hearing about more blog spaces on this site!

I love those two windows, Helen, and I think that you've hit on one thing with which many of us are quite familiar: the fact that we tend to spend too much time sitting at our computers blogging, sending email, running searches for those books we just have to have.... (I think I'd better finish this post and head on out to the pool!)

Thanks so much for allowing us this glimpse into your home and creative spaces. We really appreciate it!

  3. Helen is great and I've had the pleasure of meeting her in person!

Helen, the only way to remove yourself from the computer is to remove the computer! I dropped my MacBook so the display is all wonky and I never replaced it. The blogging I do is done at work, while on breaks and before work begins. I do check emails by phone at home, but I am almost never on the computer now. Frees me up for other things.

    1. Thank you Ti! I am so proud of you for pulling away from the computer, summer will be better when I am not blogging and working, which both are computer-oriented.

  4. That's some really tall...grass? The green out the window makes the space look lovely and calm.

    1. I don't know what the plant outside the window is, but it's a bit like a small version of a water reed with little brown things on the top

  8. What a lovely space. When I remodeled my office I thought about putting my desk facing the window but I was afraid I'd spend too much time there gazing out. Yes, definitely need to move away from the computer more often.
