In one of my many travels on the information superhighway, I stumbled across an Australian book blogger, and after reading many of her posts, I knew that I just had to contact her about being a guest on Scene of the Blog.
Megan's spirit shines through on the pages of her blog, Storybook Love Affair, and it's contagious. You can read about all sorts of things there: The Return of the Short Story, The Magic of Microfiction, a wonderful post about her birthday trip to Melbourne, goodies she's found on Pinterest, book reviews, and lots more. If you've never paid Megan a visit, you really need to head on over to Storybook Love Affair. Don't forget to say hello while you're there!
If you're visiting from Megan's blog-- Welcome! I'm glad you're taking the time to see where she creates all those excellent posts. If you'd like to see any of the photos in a larger size, all you have to do is click on them, and they'll open in a new window. If you'd like to see the blogging spaces of previous participants, click on the Scene of the Blog tab at the very top of my header. There are two ways to search: by Blog Name and by Location. Now let's go see where Megan blogs!
Thanks so much for asking me to be a part of your feature Cathy! I love reading about bloggers and writers and the places where their creativity strikes, so it's pretty exciting to contribute my own post to this subject.
Macy guarding the all-important laptop. |
As boring as it sounds most of my blogging takes place on the couch in our living room. Hubby is usually sprawled out on the couch watching TV and I'm usually curled up in the corner of it with the laptop typing away. I'm pretty good at switching my mind off from noises and distractions and can usually get into the 'writing zone' fairly easily. If I happen to be alone, then I would much rather have music on in the background instead of the TV. Music doesn't distract me at all and actually seems to create more inspiration. I have a playlist on my iTunes that I regularly listen to when working. Van Morrison is pretty much on repeat all the time but lately I've been listening to a lot of MGMT too. Great blogging music! But if one thing does distract me when working in this spot, it's Macy, my adorable little dog. She loves to curl up by my side when I'm typing and it's always comforting and relaxing to have her there :)
Blogging in bed.... |
The next best place for blogging is my bedroom. I'll usually take the laptop to the bedroom if I do want some quiet time or if I want to sprawl out on my stomach (it's hard to do that on the couch!). I actually love blogging on my bed because it's comfortable and the room is filled with so many inspiring things. I usually work by the light of my lamp and the books scattered around create a comfortable atmosphere. I should mention here too that I usually have a drink of some sort when I'm blogging. If it's the morning it'll be a cup of coffee or if it's the evening it'll be a cup of tea (or hot chocolate). And if I'm blogging during the day (which is most likely on a weekend), I love to have the window open. It's nice to feel the breeze coming through the curtains or to hear some of the sounds out on the street.
Some favorite books.... |
On weekends, if it's a nice day I might take the laptop outside and work on the outdoor table. I don't do this too often though because the connection is always bad outside and it takes forever for web pages to load. It is nice though being outside, even if it is just to sit there with a note pad and jot down ideas.
One day I'd love to have a home office. Unfortunately our house is really small and only has two bedrooms so it's a bit of a pipe dream at the moment. But I do dream of the day that I have shelves filled with books, walls full of beautiful pictures and a gorgeous white mahogany desk... it's a looooong way from ever coming true but that's the beauty of dreams right?!
Well, it's been lovely chatting here on your blog Cathy, and I can't wait to read all about the other bloggers' inspiration spots!
Thank you so much, Megan, for being a guest here on Scene of the Blog! I have to admit that some of those books are favorites of mine, too, and if I were to pay a visit, I'd be "lovin' up" Macy-- what a doll! Having a home office (and lots of bookshelves) is wonderful, and I hope that your pipe dream becomes a reality much sooner than you think!

Don't forget to stop by next Wednesday when I'll be featuring yet another book blogger from our worldwide community!
Looks great, thanks for having me Cathy!

ReplyDeleteI really can't wait Kay!
DeleteOkay, Macy is adorable! And I love how Megan balances her coffee cup on a stack of books, I do that too... which can be disastrous in my case because I'm also fairly clumsy. Off to check out her site!
ReplyDeleteMacy is an adorable blogging partner!!
ReplyDeleteShe really is! :)
DeleteI love Megan's blog!!! It's filled with whimsy and charms. And Macy is just the cutest.
ReplyDeleteI'm really good at tuning out background distractions when I blog too. Curling up on the couch really is the best place to type away.
Thanks for sharing about your favorite blogging spots, Megan. :)
Aw thanks Missie! I love your description of my blog because that's exactly what I want it to be: whimsical :)
DeleteWhat fun pics Megan! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWonderful guest post, I enjoy Storybook Love Affair very much!!
ReplyDeleteI'm just realizing I have never read or watched the movie version of Gone With The Wind. Which is better?
ReplyDeleteBoth are classics in their own right!
DeleteRyan, it depends on just what you want to know: the GWTW that most of the world knows, or the *real* GWTW, which would be the book. The movie leaves out some of Scarlett's marriages and children... and this and that. ;-)
DeleteThank you. I'm thinking if and when I get around to them that I should start with the book, then move onto the movie.
DeleteGood idea. Then you can sit and watch the movie and wonder why they left certain bits out. ;-)
DeleteMegan - Aww, so that's where all the magic takes place! :) Macy is looking adorable as ever. Love that you have Eats, Shoots & Leaves! I love that book!
ReplyDeleteCathy - wonderful feature! :)
